It's Summertime in LA...and if summer had a color it'd have to be Blu(e). Blue skies, the Ocean, Dodger blue, and fresh from San Pedro is Blu, the best thing in hip hop goin right now when you wanna relax your mind and stare at those blue skies all summer. Blu has to be the chillest sound I have heard in a long time...and you cant help but wanna let any creativity you've been hiding flow out through your ears with these joints. I saw Blu & Exile open for Wale at the Key Club in LA and he stole the show...half the crowd left after he was done...even with Wale comin' next.
Start with this album, Blu & Exile's "Below the Heavens" (2007) is straight masterful.
Blu...not to be confused with Blu...a crew of unbelievable graffiti artists who have created some of the most mind blowing pieces I have ever seen (See: "MUTO" dropped in the Study Hard post). All I can say is...twist it if ya got it.
Here at FYL we are always lookin to provide you with material that entertains you. Madden fans, this one is for you. Fake or Not, you gotta appreciate the well-written humorous hating. What if you made the NFL, were in Madden and the character representation of you just sucked...ha what a slap in the face.
A personal Letter to John Madden from the worst rated player in the game...Hey, FYL
Every now and then I fucks around the idea of get on a track and blessin yall with my lyrical holy water...and then albums like this come along and remind me why I haven't. Very simply, this shit is fresh, I love the abstract soundscapes created by some ingenious sampling, and most importantly, its mos definitely an instant classic. If you haven't heard any cuts off this yet, check it out for free below:
LA's own Dom Kennedy holds it down for the West Coast with his two summer-cook-out-pool-party friendly joints FutureStreet/DrugSounds & 25th Hour. Check out my imeem playlist, and if you're feelin his shit, Download both albums for free here.
Whack-ass job? Or maybe you're bored to the point of drooling on your damn self in that pointless-ass required class of yours? And when you try to find release in your one true love music, all you got is some lame, generic-ass auto-tune playlist, and if you're unfortunate enough to get cable tv, you're paying for music television that doesn't play music anymore or to watch some untalented fugly chick get a day job. Even worse, when you try gettin out into the world, all you're left with is the same lame ass dive bar with Journey on loop and that creepy ass regular dude that seems to know every female in that shady-ass stank smelling disgrace to Gaia our earth mother. Well we say fuck that, and in turn, Fuck Your Life.
When we say FYL, we're not trying to be rude, we demand it because we love you. We mean to say fuck your so called "life" (your occupation, your things, your lame social life) because in reality, that's not you. You are so much more than that got dammit!, so open your eyes, you deserve better, and we're here to give it to you good.
FYL is a virtual space for lovers of music, humor, and life to connect, collaborate, and learn from one another. We are dedicated to introducing you to dope local artist and their work, keeping you informed of events that will leave you wanting more interesting friends, and really anything else that will fuck any idea of what you thought was possible and inspire you to simply enjoy yo' self to the fullest. Life really is a celebration, bitches, so its about damn time to start acting accordingly...
